My Story

Emmanuelle Chaulet has been teaching and coaching actors for over 30 years both in

France and the USA.

She is the creator of Voice Dialogue Acting®, an acting coaching method combining

Michael Chekhov and Stanislavski techniques with the Voice Dialogue psychology of

selves of Hal and Sidra Stone and with the holistic energy awareness of Nancy Risley.

She articulated her unique approach in her book A BALANCING ACT, THE

DEVELOPMENT OF ENERGIZE A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO ACTING, and later in

INCARNER LE PERSONNAGE, a Voice Dialogue Acting® manuel (in French).

She studied acting in Paris under Robert Cordier and at the Atelier Blanche Salant. She

was cast by French New Wave master Éric Rohmer as the lead character, Blanche, in

his 1987 film Boyfriends and Girlfriends (L'Ami de mon amie). She continued with roles

in Claire Denis’s acclaimed debut Chocolat (1988) with Isaach de Bankolé and in Alain

Resnais’s I Want to Go Home (1989). She also performed several plays with Xavier

Durringer creating the famous role of Lulu in Bal trap (with Vincent Cassel), also

performing in Une Rose sous la peau, and then in Une petite entaille at the Rond Point

Theatre (with Vincent Cassel et Eric Savin).

She left for the USA when she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship at the Lee

Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York, and filmed All the Vermeers in New York by

Jon Jost, 1991 winner of the best American independent film award as well as

Sundowning by Jim Cole, winner of the Cinequest Emerging Mavericks/New Vision

award.

She stayed in the USA for 25 years and was a Lecturer in Theatre at the University of

Southern Maine Department of Theatre, teaching acting and business of acting classes

to undergraduate students. She has been included in the prestigious “Who’s Who in

America” since 2007.

Currently living in southern France (Saint-Jean-de-Luz/ Hendaye) she coaches

professional actors with a special attention to their inner voices (Voice Dialogue

Acting®) both for role creation and for career development blocks.
